Maidstone, All Saints Monumental Inscriptions

Maidstone All Saints
More than 3,400 names from memorials in the church and churchyard of All Saints Church, Maidstone, recorded in the late 19th century and published in 1996 on microfiche. Contains indexes by name and grave plus a copy of the microfiche.

Published in 1996, the fiche has copies of the inscriptions that were recorded in a set of exercise books, loaned to the Society by the late Mrs Mary Wigan. The current whereabouts of the actual notebooks is unknown.

From correspondence on the microfiche it appears that the transcription was commissioned in the late 19th century by Mr R Hovenden, of Croydon, Director of Hovenden and Son Ltd, a wholesaler and exporter of pharmaceutical and hairdressing products . Local man Stephen Shaw recorded the stones in the churchyard in c1893 and John T Russell those inside the church in 1897..
