About the Talk
During the second world war Kent had two Mental deficiency Institutions: - West View Institution at Tenterden and Leybourne Grange Colony at West Malling.

The war had an impact on the ambitious building programme at Leybourne Grange Colony, the staffing of the Institution, the patient intake and the families of both patients and staff. This talk will include preparations for war, the impact of air raids, rationing, evacuation and both staff and families of patients being called up and being part of the war effort.

About the Speaker
Kara Greig, is Chairman of Deal branch of Kent FHS, and currently completing a PhD at the University of Kent examining 'The Implementation of the Mental Deficiency Act in Kent 1913 - 1948'.
