Resources on FamilySearch: Using RootsTech videos
Hilary Blanford introduced the group to some of the resources available which can help us with developing our family history research skills.
Starting at the FamilySearch homepage, we followed the ‘Start building’ prompt at the top onto the 2026 Schedule for the RootsTech event. From there, it is possible to ‘View the Help Section’, looking at simple guides which explain how the event works. From this page, those who have registered with FamilySearch are able to create a schedule to join sessions in person or online at the RootsTech event in March.
However, it is also possible to access the extensive library of recorded sessions about a variety of family history related subjects. The easiest way to do this is by clicking on ‘Watch Videos’ at the top of the page. Clicking on ‘Browse the Library’ takes you to a page where it is possible to search for topics of interest. Filters can be added to narrow down your search and then view your chosen videos. It is possible to filter by topic, level of skill, and other, to narrow your search. One word of warning, when search results appear, upcoming events appear first, so it is necessary to scroll through these results to reach the videos that are already available to view. All of this was achieved without creating an account or logging into anything at all. A great resource for developing your chosen skills, whether you want to learn how to get started on family history research, how to research a particular aspect of family history, how to use AI in your research or numerous other areas.
