Well known family historian, Celia Heritage, advised us on ‘Tracing a 16th and 17th century English family tree.’
For this time there are fewer records, which are more difficult to find and to decipher, with most not transcribed. Nevertheless, Celia showed how, with luck and persistence, families can be traced. As well as parish records and wills, amongst others, manorial and court records can be valuable sources of information on family relationships.
She emphasised the importance of obtaining two independent sources for these. This was an enormously detailed and helpful talk, which cannot easily be summarised. Fortunately, for those interested, Celia’s notes for this are available through her website www.chfh.co.uk
