Old buildings shown in the postcard, and the First World War soldier who sent it. Light was also shed on Birchington’s experiences during 1914-18.
‘The life and times of Mrs. Beeton: a reflection of social change’ by Chris Emmorey
Isabella Beeton, in spite of her very limited practical experience, wrote a phenomenally successful book on household management, before dying at just 28. It was the handbook that told the new middle class Victorian housewife everything she needed to know.
‘I thought I was all alone’ by Colin Winstone
A truly remarkable personal account. Colin, supposedly an orphan whose parents had been murdered in Kenya, discovered that was all lies, and instead that he has an extensive Welsh family he hadn’t known existed.
