The Branch’s summer outing was to the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham where we had a guided tour and learned of the Royal Engineers work from defending Gibraltar in the eighteenth century, fighting in the Napoleonic wars, life in the trenches during WW1 and the improving technology in WW2.
The artefacts we saw included Wellington’s map of Waterloo and an original officer’s uniform, early gas masks, and the huge V2 rocket.
The branch continues to support Medway Archives by manning the family history help desks every Tuesday and Thursday morning and in April two of those members, Hilary Blanford and Brenda Paternoster delivered a series of talks for beginner-intermediate family historians which were well attended and a repeat in the autumn has been requested
