The AGM was over fairly quickly and the 10 people who attended were treated to a transcription evening, our first for some time. We had the school admissions register from September 1913 onwards for Westborough School which was then called Tonbridge Road Council School - Junior Department. It was fascinating if somewhat slow work as each A3 page held details for around 35 pupils.
The information about each pupil is enlightening, data includes pupil’s names, date of birth, address and parent’s name together with admission dates, last school attended, medical inspections and the date and reason for leaving.
As always some names were a little difficult to read but helped by other siblings coming along in later entries but most importantly an index which cross references the specific entry with the surname & forename of the child. The index has been a god-send for those checking the transcriptions ready for sorting and publishing; although this may be a while off as we have transcribed about 40% of the first 30 pages covering the period 1913 - 1916. We have transcribed, typed and checked this data for about 450 pupils.
Altogether an enjoyable evening supplemented by tea and biscuits to sustain us.
