The first of our 2017 speakers was LucyAnn Curling who gave a talk entitled “My dear Grandson, My dear Grandmother”. As the title suggests the talk recounted the correspondence between two of her ancestors and highlighted the formal style of that early nineteenth century age. Unlikely that many grandmothers today would be commending a prayer as part of their birthday greeting to a fourteen year old, or that he in turn would be discussing the death of a local MP in his response.
