Dr. John Reuther came to give us a talk entitled Bugs, Plagues and Pestilence this month. This fascinating, humorous and thought provoking talk was well received by all present.
The talk provided the opportunity to look afresh at some of our previously understood ideas of what were the decisive factors in how major events in our history have been arrived at. A subject which could prove hard for the non-medical mind was made readily understandable and posed the question of what is required for disease to exist and become a threat, and just how significant is the damage it causes. It seems we should be very thankful for the efficiency of the human body at eradicating bugs or, who knows, that kiss really could be goodnight
