A fascinating talk, about the little known story of Belgian Refugees and the people who helped them in Deal & Walmer during WW1, was given by Suzanne Green.
Whilst there is much publicised information about their arrival in Folkestone, there appears to be little acknowledgement of the numbers who came to Deal & Walmer. Suzanne’s research brought to light how they came to be brought to the town and the warmth of the reception they received from local people who provided accommodation and employment. Perhaps this research could be used for a public display.
