Imogen Corrigan came to speak to us this month, and the theme of her talk was titled “A Child’s Life in the Middle Ages”. This was a fascinating subject delivered with humour and littered with a range of illustrations, and it was clearly well received by all present. The talk ranged over such things as how people were depicted in paintings of that period, the fact that women of noble families tended to be seen almost as breeding machines, mortality rates and how the law tended to regard their welfare.
