Following a brief presentation by Viv Carter, about the scrapbooks she has assembled, Canterbury branch members spent an interesting evening looking at different ways they could store and present their own research.
Viv said that her scrapbooks [she is on her 4th] allow her to include social history, add the questions where she hasn’t yet found the answers and include as much of the evidence as she has been able to find. The stories tell themselves through documentation, maps and pictures.
We then looked at extensive family trees, extremely well organised files and wallets containing documentation, photographs and family stories, brought in by members, who were able to talk to each other about the information they had collected.
Anne Ashdown, the Society’s Archivist, attended the meeting and brought a scrapbook from the 'Family Files' that had been donated to the Archive. She also showed how her own research was stored on a computer program.
Feedback from members was that it was a useful and interesting evening, with one saying it had given her the impetus to complete a project she had started some years ago.
