St Stephens Church, Hackington, Canterbury
Most of the subjects in David’s talk have been discovered on his numerous walks around Canterbury. As he was giving a talk to Ashford Branch he had previously walked in the Ashford area and noted a few monuments and discovered the stories about them – namely:
- the Statue of Queen Marie of Romania,
- the Plantagenet tomb at Eastwell
- the empty plinth – also at Eastwell.
David then went on to share with us stories of some of the monuments he had discovered on his walks around Canterbury.
A very varied and very interesting talk given by very good speaker. If we learnt one thing from the talk it was to look around us when we are walking and if we see something unusual, interesting or different – find out about it and the story behind it.
