A
warm welcome to all family historians!
Whether
you are just starting out to climb your family tree, or have
been involved in the detective work for some years, our friendly
society looks forward to you becoming a member this year.
No
matter where you may live the society has something for you.
We
currently have a world-wide membership exceeding 4,000 - some
18% of our members live as far away as Australia, Canada,
New Zealand and the USA. If you reside in New Zealand, our
postal branch offers an extra benefit with their own home
Newsletter which is currently published three times a year.
Our Australian members also have their own home Newsletter
which is also published three times a year.
Our
quarterly Journal (free to members), is published every March,
June, September and December. It is one of the largest Family
History publications, being some 120 pages per issue. Our Library
offers UK members the opportunity to borrow books, leaflets
etc., on loan, for just the cost of postage. Or copies of brief
information can be made available from the 'Family Files' for
just the cost of photocopying and postage.
A
members' interests directory is published bi-annually (from
2004) on CD-ROM and is provided 'free; to all paid-up members'.
Quarterly updates also appear in our Society Journal.
Members
Interests are now also available on-line on our website, but
this only includes those members' interests who have opted
to have these published in this way. (It is not a complete
membership list)
The
Society in its 33 year history, has published over 2,000 records
on microfiche - all contain a wide variety of information.
These are available at a reduced price to members. Some information
is now also available on CD-ROM, and all future publications
will be in both formats.
Our
website is gradually being constructed and will continue to
have new editions to its pages on an on-going basis.
Our
Global branch with its own maillist for members currently
has nearly 800 members online and in this way they exchange
a huge range of information and help solve members problems
(almost instantly sometimes!).
If
you live in Kent, you can be assured of a very warm welcome
at our various monthly meetings around the county in either:
Ashford, Canterbury, Deal, Maidstone, Medway (Strood) or Thanet
(Birchington). [These meetings are free to local members,
or to any member visiting the County].
If
you want to get actively involved in the KFHS we always have
projects which you can participate in - no matter where you
live. I am sure that that our society will be of help and
encouragement to you - so why not join us today.
